Basic Grey Kit Club/All About Me

Registration is now open for Basic Grey Kit Club. Club begins March 1st.
For All About Me fans, this is a great kit & includes a sketch & All About Me title suggestions.

Its a 12 month commitment. All members receive a 12x12 album at the conclusion of the 12 months. Ask around for members this year-they loved it. Awesome value!!!

Here's a peek at the last 2 for this kit club.
January’s elegant and evocative layout features classical patterns from
Curio, mixed with simple shapes in easy layers. Created by the talented
Greta Hammond, January’s layout is perfect for heritage themes as well as
sweet sentiments and anything that your students wish to cherish in coming
years. For those on the “All About Me” track, January is the perfect time for
new beginnings…so personal goals or resolutions can be highlighted here

February’s lighthearted Hopscotch layout is bubbly fun framed in a compellingly
unexpected light blue solid. Designed by Kelly Goree, and featuring tiny
flowers, hearts, butterflies and bubbles gathered artistically around photos
and journaling, this layout is perfect for scrapping everything sweet—from
your students’ favorite foods to childhood photos, to outdoor winter activities
in bright snow and blue skies. “All About Me” students can scrapbook their
favorite people, their friends!

Suggested themes for Jan/Feb supplies:
GENERAL: Jan: heritage, new year’s eve party, favorite party, recipes, new beginnnings
Feb: winter and outdoor activities, parties, Valentine’s Day, first crush
ALL ABOUT ME
“New Beginnings” – lend some authority to your New Year’s resolutions—or if you don’t make them, your general goals—by putting them down on paper. Putting your resolutions down makes them feel more real and makes them harder to ignore in the long run.
“My Friends” – they make you laugh and they are always there for you. Time to make a space in your album for your favorite people—your friends.

Scrap your Babies (new or old)

MEMORY MANIA BABY KIT CLUB

Is Scrapbooking Your Baby During His or Her First Year Possible?
In one word – YES. I know scrapbooking your child’s first year can feel overwhelming. Somehow, the first year seems the most important, doesn’t it? Especially right now, if your baby is a baby and your world revolves around him or her.

And if your baby isn’t a baby and you are reading this, then chances are good you believe the first year scrapbook is significant, too. I think my babies were 18 & 20 when I scrapbooked their first year. It's never too late-in fact, i REALLY think i enjoyed it more scrappin' it years later (some days I needed to remember why i loved them LOL). But, the biggest advantage to scrappin' while they are babies IS remembering the journaling & you JUST take better, more meaningful pictures!!!!!

I hope this inspires you and that you will enjoy the process of scrapbooking your baby. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You give your baby love every day. Nothing matters as much as that – even scrapbooking. (However, someday your scrapbooks will be a tangible reminder of that love!
Baby Scrapbooking Layouts Checklist
As a busy mom, sometimes just thinking of what to scrapbook can be overwhelming. Use this checklist to give you ideas of what to scrapbook. Be sure to check off layouts as you complete them. This list is not meant to be exhaustive, but is a great resource if you feel stuck or just want something to refer to. Also, don’t feel like you have to do all of the layouts suggested. Some of the topics may not resonate with you, or you just may not have time, which is okay. Your child will appreciate anything you create! This list has fifty layout ideas, so if you can carve out time to do one layout a week, you will have an incredible album in one year.

What would you do without a local scrapbook store??

Yikes, I hope you never have to worry about that one!!

Becky & Jody were in "getting their scrap fix" yesterday while visiting family for the holidays. They have both moved out of state and have watched their local stores close & wow, now MM is their only source of scrappin' goodness. While that is awesome for MM, it makes me so sad for scrappers not to have a local store. We talked about how tough it is NOT to have a store in the area that you can run to match cardstock to your pics or solid paper, find that perfect pattern paper & embellishment & just walk around enjoying the smell of ALL THAT PAPER (these girls walked around the store for HOURS). That thought just terrifies me-I don't think I could scrap like that-i love being able to come to MM at midnight if i need to (ha ha), well i know that's a little spoiled, but seriously I can not imagine being able to walk around a store touching & feeling all the cool scrappin' goodies. Let's all support our local scrapbook stores!!!! Without them, scrappin' as we know it will go away. Even the scrap weekends/conventions will not survive if scrappers don't have a local store to keep them involved & scrappin'.
Note to self: Things I'm thankful for-MY local scrapbook store!!!!

MM is committed to this awesome hobby of scrapbooking, to our family of scrapbookers & we're hanging in there. but we do NEED YOUR SUPPORT. I know you've seen the numerous emails this week of stores in nearby towns closing and I can't say how sorry I am for these owners-its got to be soooo hard to let that dream go and to the scrappers who will need to drive farther to find their next local store. :(

On a happier note-I can't tell you how GREAT it was to see these awesome 2 talented scrapper friends!!!! They always have so much excitement, enthusiasm and even brainstormed with me a bit--just makes me MISS them more when they leave!! Wish we could rewind a few years back when they were the croppin' excitement every Friday night!!!

Serenaded by Nature

Serenaded by Nature created by Pam Boudreaux
Memory Mania Masterpieces Pages, 28 & 48

Wow, these photos take your breath away-AWESOME!!!
Pam used the left side of p. 28 & right side of 48 substituting embellishment for photo. Pam incorporated a trend from October CK, page. 29 placing a title over stickers on tag & pulled together with raffia. Pam painted the raffia green to look like a weed. Another trend we've seen used alot lately are "leaves" (October CK, p.102). She punched leaf die cuts, stamped a dotted pattern on them & chalked them.

Great job Pam, I loved the PHOTOS, dimensions of the title, the pocket for journaling, Sassafrass borders and the way the whimsical stamps added serenity to the layout. Great job!!

Pa Pattern paper: Sassafras Indi Girl (Headphones on); Sassafras Indi Girl (Electic Elegance); Sassafras cardstock stickers (Indie Sweet Treats); Journal pockets (KI Memories); Cricut cartridge “Cuttin’ Up”; Punches for big leaves, and small leaf/twig; Stamps: Autumn Leaves, Flourishes stamps; Inks: Black and brown ink Other: Bronze brads

Recipe for the week: Corn & Shrimp Soup (FYI-5 points per serving)

3 Tbsp cooking oil
3 tbsp flour
Vegetables (1 medium onion, 1/2 ribs celery, 1 cup shallots, 3 cloves garlic, 1 med bell pepper,
4 tbsp parsley)
1 can stewed tomatoes
15 oz can Rotel
2 can whole kernal corn
1 can cream style corn
5 qts water
2 lbs shrimp
1 carton crabmeat

Make roux; add all vegetables; cook 10 min until onion is tender; Add tomatoes, both kinds and cook 10 minutes longer; stirring constantly; add both corns, water & seasonings; simmer 1 hour; add shrimp; cook 30 min. Serves 10 to 12; I didn't put it, but you KNOW i put 1 cap of crab boil LOL.

LIn time for holidays:

CHEESE MOLD

1 pack of Mexican cheese
1 pack of Pizza cheese
1 diced onion
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup chopped pecans
Cayenne pepper/Tabasco to taste

Wonder Melon

Wondermelon created by Jeanna Baron

MM Masterpieces, Pages 21, 22 & 27

#21-copied the right side of layout but used on the left side of
mine; kept the 5x7 and the 2x2 pictures but instead of the 3x5 I put
a flower embellishment.
#22-flipped semicircle to the top of my layout and made it into a
watermelon.
#27-used the right side of the layout but changed the picture
sizes to one 4x6 and two 3x5's.

Jeana tore the white paper, chalked the edges & matted on green paper and then hand stitched around it in brown to bring out the brown seeds used on watermelon. For the flowers: cut out strips of pattern paper ranging from 1/2" to 1" wide, fold paper back and forth to look like an accordian & adhere the two ends and spread out the paper in a circle to make a flower. She used different colored Brads for centers of flowers.

WOW-i love the tearing & stitching around the focal photo which ties in with the seeds & flowers!!! I also really liked the tiny ribbons/beads accenting the other photo!!! GREAT JOB!!!

Contest Inspiration & Time to sharpen your scissors . . .

Turkey Day created by Darlene Quebedeaux

Darlene combined MM Masterpiece Sketches on Pages 11, 96 & 42

Darlene painted the edges of all of her photos, cardstock & strips of paper. Title was printed using Talkin Turkey font on transparency & gold leafing pen to fill in the letters. Turkeys were also printed on transparency. Leaves were punched out with copper tone foil & alcohol ink on some of them. She used a heat gun to change the color. Probably my favorite thing is that she used the large Heidi Swapp flower petals as the turkey feathers-accented with gold leafing & glimmer mist. Great job on the flip up page (Darlene is teaching an MMU Class in January showing you how to preserve your Christmas Cards-check it out).

Materials: pattern paper & Stickers: Reminisce & SEI; cardstock: Bazzill; Letters: Maya Road; Gold leafing pen: krylon; Punches: Paper Shapers & Marvy Embossing punch; Alcohol inks: Terra cotta, espresso & cranberry; Glimmer mist: Tuscan Sun, Tiger Lily & Deep Plum; Other items used: Ribbon

Gumballs & Cheesy Chicken Recipe

Masterpiece Pages 50 & 18, Designed by Audrey Wascome

WOW-this layout really speaks to a mother's heart!!!! I loved all of the sentimental things Audrey used on her layout. This is sure to be a layout treasured for many generations.
Audrey deconstructed her son's (Rex) 1st birthday outfit. All of the red and white striped cloth, as well as the buttons on the page is from the outfit, sewn onto the page. The gumball machine is the applique from the outfit (on the left side of the layout (page 50) instead of a 4x5 picture.)
Circles were cut to mat photos resembling gumballs.
Focal photo is awesome & definitely captures the theme of the layout.

Supplies:
Letters: Lush chipboard stickers and studio calico rub-ons (inked& dimensional magic), Adorn-it; Journaling -label maker with red ribbon.
Pocket to hold all of the cards & invitation: Ki Memories
Pattern Paper: Doodlebug petite prints (swimming pool dot-grid & ladybug/daisy stripe); Bella Blvd. Socialite; Bo Bunny deep sea dot;
Rub-ons: "Happy Birthday" tag using yellow paper and the birthday rub-ons by creative imaginations,
Ink: teal & Cranberry

Great job Audrey!!!

Masterpiece Monday and the winner is . . .

Heather Banker, Fall Leaf Pile

WOW-this contest took quite a while to judge. Additional judges were brought in to break the tie between the 8 layouts presented by the top 8 of the CCL Page Contest. The layouts were scored based on: Color Compliment, Design, Uniqueness, Updated products/techniques !! This is a HUGE Compliment to each of these girls!!!!!!!

Heather used the MM Masterpieces Page 70 & 48. She used the circle title idea in top left of p. 70
& used the strips of paper as shown on pg. 2 of p. 48 and flipped the sketch on pg. 1 so some of my strips went vertical. She also used the idea of placing a sub title on the bottom of pg. 1 & moved it closer to the left side.
Products: Bella Blvd. one fall day line by Stephanie Hunt, Bazzill solid cardstock, thin sheets of cork board, white uni ball pen, dew drop accents. Sizzix shadow box die cuts for title.

Some of the comments that the judges forwarded to me were: The color spotlighted the pictures. Unique ribbon use in the title, journaling in swirls with child’s name, design very balanced & pleasing to the eye.
Loved the use of dew drops throughout layout. The photos are still highlight on the layout.

Stay tuned as I will be posting layouts each day highlighting each layout & the things the judges like most about each one. There will be so much inspiration on the blog this week-I hope you tune in to take notes, print pics & scraplift them. Perfect timing for OOPS'ing for CCL!!!!

Great job!!! Heather wins a $100 store credit & gets to PASS IT ON - one lucky person chosen by Heather will attend CCL FREE.
